Why It’s Worth Buying A Used Laptop Online

April 6, 2015 By Jordan Cartrer Leave a Comment

Once upon a time, computers were big grey boxes that sat and grumbled nosily beneath our desks. Portability and the luxury of working on the move was the preserve of those who could afford the premium prices that laptops and mobile technology commanded. Over the last few years however, the price of mobile technology has dropped and affordable portable devices have flooded the market. The average cost of an entry-level laptop is now less than £300. Not only is this great news for those buying new, but it also means that there are many bargains available in the used technology market.

Constantly upgrading

With prices dropping all the time and many companies offering laptops and tablets on contracts similar to mobile phones, many customer have come to think of mobile technology as disposable and something that needs to be constantly upgraded. For these people nothing less than the latest technology with the latest specification will do. However, that is really not the reality. Gone are the days when computing components took giant leaps forward with every revision. The latest Intel processor upgrade from i5 to i7 is nowhere near equivalent to the leap forward achieved between the Pentium processor and its 486 predecessor. What this means is that there is plenty of older technology available that will function well for all but the most intensive of applications.

Buying online

A good place to begin your search is with one of the online auction sites. A quick search will bring up thousands and thousands of best laptops on the market for sale. However, not all used laptops are the same, as some of them have had a hard life, so in order to get a good deal there are a number of details that you need to look at that could prove costly to put right. You need to make sure that the computer comes with a legitimate working operating system and that any software included is legal. In addition, laptops can take some abuse. Check the hinges for cracking, check the screen for dead pixels and make sure that the battery holds a charge. The reality is that using an online auction site could be very risky. Unless you can actually look at the device before you buy you are at the mercy of the seller’s honesty. Add shipping to the equation and the likelihood of getting a good laptop is diminished. Luckily, there is a solution.

Another way

There are now specialist online retailers who concentrate on supplying quality used laptops. When you buy from one of these stockists, each laptop is checked and refurbished to a high standard and will come with a comprehensive warranty, which means that you can buy in confidence without needing to view before you buy.

If you want to buy a quality used laptop or tablet then visit to Portable Universe – you can rest assured that you are getting a quality device at a fraction of the price of a new one, free from the hassle and risk associated with buying a used laptop from a private seller.
